In a Somalian barrack, children are gearing up for a deployment by the Somali Regime (The U.S.A supports this regime). The children are being forced to drink liquor and do drugs around the barracks so they get addicted and want more. The entire regime uses child soldiers to take countless lives. The regime uses and takes advantage of children. The children often have little to no choice whether or not they enlist in the regime. If they do have a choice it is often for food and shelter, not to kill and rain terror on the other people in their country. They don’t know what they are getting into. The kids know nothing about war. The regime has been funded by the U.S.A. There are drugs and alcohol given to the kids brainwash them and make them delusional. This type of violence happens in multiple different countries. These are blatant pieces of evidence that child soldiers are definitely the victims in this and not the perpetrators. First off, we believe that child soldiers should be considered victims because the children have to go through many bad consequences. For example, ”Once the children are recruited, they become brainwashed through drugs and alcohol.” What this suggests is that the children are victims because they are forced into getting brainwashed and given drugs by the government that has taken them away from everything they know and anybody they love. Another reason is the children are forced by their commanders through false promises and other things we can't even imagine to kill innocent citizens of their country and some are even forced to kill their own family members. After looking at this we can see that this is not fair to these poor children to go through. This leaves horrible memories that the kid has to live with for the rest of their life. Being brainwashed and forced to kill innocent citizens and family members definitely shows why child soldiers should be considered victims. Additionally, the child soldiers are victims because they are often forced into fighting in the wars. Most of the time the government forces the kids to go to basic training and then to fight in their war that they are already losing. The government shows up and tells the kids good things about the war and why they should fight so they would join them. They just say what the kid wants to hear. If that doesn't work then they usually forcefully take the kids and force them into the military. This makes the kid’s life miserable. The country’s government thinks that taking the kids from their parents is the right thing to do, but all they get is more deaths because of their poorly trained child soldiers. Children aren’t strong enough or obedient enough to be able to fight in a war. Forcing them into fighting makes them worse soldiers because they don't actually like what they are doing. This ruins the kids lives and is something terrible that they will remember for the rest of their life. Another significant reason is child soldiers should be considered victims because they don't understand what they are getting into when they sign up to be in the military. The children are brainwashed and forced to kill people that they don't want to kill. When the children sign up, the commanders don't tell them all of the things that they are going to have to go through. They are just kids. They don’t know what war is or how terrible it is for them and other people. It’s hard to think that if we were living in another country that does this, it would be something that i would have to be worried about every day. This is very unfair to the children. In conclusion, the many children that are being slaughtered and carted away because they join the military must keep their guard up and protect themselves. The often bias statement that child soldiers are responsible for their actions is false. The children are brainwashed and are taken advantage of. This is due to the drugs and alcohol given to them by the government and their commander at a very young age like 8-16 years old. They are responsible to their actions to an extent but in reality they should receive treatment not a punishment because they didn’t know what they were doing and were forced into fighting. They were told good things about it like getting food and a shelter. They weren’t told “Hey! Come join the army so we can have you possibly die for our benefit!” If they were told that they obviously wouldn’t join. The kids have no idea how bad it is or what they are getting themselves into. Those are good reasons why child soldiers are victims and not the perpetrators. These kids, living in the horrible Somali barracks, are very mistreated and this is why we need to pay attention to this topic. Multiple countries around the world are resorting to child soldiers and it ruins that kid’s life. This is why we need to get educated on this topic. Such horrible things are happening to innocent kids all around the world and we need to get involved and try to stop it. http://www.onlinedigitalpubs.com/display_article.php?id=503129

By: Nick Beckman and Caleb Tapp The “I Have A Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. is a very well written speech with good choice of words and a lot of description. It talks about how he wants everybody to be free no matter what race they are or what they do in their life. He puts a lot of emotion into his writing so he can get his point across when he actually says his speech. When he writes, he tries to write in the POV of the fight for equality and to do this, he has to explain how tough it is to fight for this stuff while he gets all the hate for doing so. “Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.” this means that he wants everybody to protest about equal rights for the blacks to be able to have equal rights. Malcolm X spoke out with a very well written speech. it had good choice of words all throughout the speech. It also had lots of emotion in the speech that he wrote. It talks about how he wants blacks to be treated more like whites. They want the same freedom as the whites do. I think POV is that whites have more freedom than blacks and he and the other blacks want the same freedom that whites have. It says in the book “There are 22,000,000 African Americans who are ready to fight for independence right here.” This shows that Malcolm X is done with the non-violent protests because he seems to think that they aren’t working. He wants to fight back and try to actually make a difference. Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. both believe in equal rights for all people no matter what their race is and the fight for equal rights. It seems like they would keep fighting for equal rights until something happens to them because they risked their lives for the wellbeing of others all around america. To them, equal rights is everything and they feel the need to fight for it. The difference between the two people is that MLK Jr. wants to keep his protests non-violent to show that black people aren’t bad. Malcolm X wants to show dominance and forget about non-violence because he wants to get the point across no matter what happens. In Malcolm X’s speech, he says “...When i say fight for independence right here, i don’t mean any non-violent fight or turn-the-other-cheek fight. Those days are gone. Those days are over.” this is showing that he doesn’t care about the non-violence. MLK Jr. says “in the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protests to degenerate into physical violence.” this is saying that he doesn’t want the protests to be violent, but to be very peaceful while still trying to fight for their rights. Ethan Meneghini gets to the party down the street that his neighbors are having. He is about to have a lot of fun. Ethan is going to DJ at that party. He loves being a DJ. But, the thing is, he’s an 8th grader. He goes to Creekside middle school in Carmel, and whenever he can, he invites his friends to come with him, just to make it better than it already is. He has his laptop, turntable, lights that go with the music, and his speakers. He puts out business cards whenever he performs, so if people like his work, they will take one of his cards and hire him for their party. He plays whatever song he is asked to play. He also plays the music that he creates, which could be any of his 3 albums or 2 singles. “Can you play Stayin’ alive by the Bee Gees?” says Zach, a kid at the party. “Sure, if i have it on my laptop” replies Ethan. He then plays the song that was requested if he has it, and then goes back to the playlist that he has made with the host of the party. A lot of the time, the people at the party sing along or dance to the song that he is playing at the time. He also does raffles if the host wants to do so, just to make the party more interesting and fun for the guests. Once the party is over, he packs all of his equipment into his stepdad Seth’s car, gets payed, and goes home. Sometimes, he schedules another gig with the neighbor because they were fans of what he does. And then everything’s quiet. Ethan has made an impact on the city of Carmel because he has taken over multiple older dj's jobs. He dj's normal back yard events, but will also dj some of the school events that the high school used to dj before they found him. He hopes that when he gets older and better at being a dj, he can dj bigger events that have more people at them. |
